3 Exceptional Women’s Podcasts

By Carol H Cox

For Women’s History Month, I decided to share with you three of my favorite women-centered podcasts. The hosts are women and their shows touch on women’s issues. The first podcast is about women and work, the next revolves around personal finance issues, and the last is a fun mix of current events, entertainment, and miscellaneous musings of the hosts.

In no particular order, here we go!

Women’s Work:

This is a new show hosted by author Tsh Oxenreider (yes, I spelled that name right), a self-proclaimed simple living expert and author (she has another popular podcast called The Simple Show). Tsh has a different female guest each week to discuss the guest’s chosen profession. The host uses revealing Q & As to get to the heart of how the guest chose her vocation, the meat of what the work entails, and the ups and downs of the job, as well as her future career plans. There have been a variety of interesting and creative women on the show, including a journalist, a priest, a prosecutor, a writer, and a non-profit founder, just to name a few.

The host is very good at putting her guests at ease and making us feel like we are there chatting with them over a cup of coffee.

If you are at all curious about women and work, this podcast is for you.

Brown Ambition:

I love the rapport between these two hosts, Mandy and Tiffany. It’s a real pick-me-up when I’m having a low-energy day. The hosts are young African American women who talk about all things personal finance, with special emphasis on women of color. Tiffany Aliche, aka The Budgetnista, runs her own personal finance educational business. Mandy Woodruff is an executive editor at Magnify Money, a popular informational personal finance website.

Both women clearly enjoy one another’s company and love bouncing ideas and observations back and forth. Occasionally they’ll have a guest expert on to give deep insight into a particular topic. At the end of each show, they usually answer listener questions on a variety of money issues.

Past subjects have included house buying, reducing insurance bills, student loan foregiveness, debt reduction, retirement savings, and building credit. They generously tap into their own personal experiences to make the discussions very relatable.

The show is always interesting and informative. I highly recommend it.

Satellite Sisters:

This one is a longstanding podcast that’s hosted by the Dolan sisters—five sisters who are all extremely entertaining and fun (Monica, Lian, Liz, Julie, and Sheila). These women love to laugh—it’s just a really uplifting show to listen to. Just about any current event, latest movie, foreign affairs (especially North Korea and Russia), and personal anecdotes are topic material. They infuse their discussions with very pointed and honest observations.

I really enjoy the personal stories they give about such subjects as sending the last child off to college, vacationing with family, homeowner association blues, or taking up new hobbies.

They’ve built quite an online community of women followers and rightfully so.

I hope you give these podcasts a try, and enjoy them as much as I do!
